Hill Top Arms FAQs

Laws

Do I need to pass a background check to purchase a firearm?

In most cases, the answer is going to be “Yes”. All sales of modern firearms (pistols and rifles) will require a background check of the individual buyer. The only exceptions are for some antique firearms and reproductions (black powder). If you have any concerns about your ability to pass a background check, please raise it BEFORE filling out any paperwork as there will be a Transfer Fee charged regardless of the approval status.

PA residents for all rifles and handguns with the ability to pass a background check and are “of age”:

Rifles – Over the age of 18
Handguns – Over the age of 21

Out of state sales are handled on an individual basis.

Yes, if there is reason to believe the buyer is not the actual purchaser of the firearm (known as a “straw” purchase), is not acting responsibly, or if staff have any other concerns about the sale or transfer.
